How to cut elastic waistband loops and make the brand logo in a perfect center alignment?
In this drawing, the repeating length is 8 inches, which means the brand logo comes again every 8 inches. The brand logo width is 5 inches, and the gap between the two logos is 3 inches. Now we list the size range of underwear briefs or trunks, and elastic bra bust is in the same way.
First, you need to calculate the whole length of elastic waistband loop, then choose one logo shape as the center mark.
Second, mark the center of the brand logo as the center line, then measure a half-length of the waistband loop to position the two ends for cutting.
In 32” size, cutting line positioning as drawing
And 48″ size, it is as below
In this way, you can always make the brand logo in a perfect center alignment on elastic waistbands when you make underwear samples.
After sewing, you will get elastic waistband loops like below iamges.
Tips: when you design the jacquard elastic band, try to make the repeating length a divisor of the loop length, or let the loop length be the odd multiples of the repeating length, in order to achieve perfect cutting.
How to design an elastic waistband to make as less waste in cutting as possible?
Sometimes you have to face an issue in that you cannot always set the repeating length as the divisor of loop length for the best logo layout. Then how to adjust the design to make as less wastage in cutting as possible, and match as many sizes of underwear waist loops as possible?
In this section, we take the third case as a demonstration and give the best solution. Supposed your underwear briefs trunks project is:
S 28”
M 32”
L 36”
XL 40”
2XL 44”
Usually, the logo width is no more than 5” for the best view. If you want to match as many sizes as possible, we should leave a wider gap between the two logos as the adjustable space in cutting. That means we need to increase the repeating length and make fewer logos on each elastic waistband loop.
Next, we group the sizes again to mark segments before we cut them into waistband loops.
S+2XL: 28” + 44” = 72”
M+XL: 32” + 40” = 72”
L+L: 36” + 36” = 72”
So we can set the repeating length as 9”, and deduct the logo width 5”, we get a gap 4” between every two logos. 4” is wide enough for adjusting space in cutting.
As the drawing demonstration below:
Finally, we will calculate repeating counts of logo on each waistband loop.
S+2XL: 28” + 44” = 72” (3 repeats + 5 repeats)
M+XL: 32” + 40” = 72” (3 repeats + 5 repeats)
L+L: 36” + 36” = 72” (4 repeats + 4 repeats)
Then we finish the cutting line positioning as below drawings.
The rest size 36”, as it is just 4 times of repeating length, you can set the cutting position easily to make a perfect center alignment of brand logo in any one of below layout.
Congratulations! You have learned how to design a jacquard waistband to match all 5 sizes of elastic loops. More importantly, you take ZERO wastage in cutting for pants design.
